Contracts and forms for handyman businesses

A handyman business does many small jobs, so the paperwork has to be fast: an estimate on site, a work order signed at the door, an invoice the same day. It also has to say clearly what a handyman does not do, because most states cap handyman work by job size and exclude licensed trades.

The pack below covers the full job cycle in plain English, with the licensing limits written into the contract so the client hears it from the paper.

Questions

Do I need a contract for small handyman jobs?

For a $150 repair a signed work order is enough. For anything larger, a service agreement sets the trip fee, materials markup, hidden-condition rule and the licensed work you will not do.

What is the handyman limit in my state?

Many states let unlicensed handymen take jobs only under a dollar limit and exclude electrical, plumbing and HVAC. The contract has a placeholder for your state's limit; check your contractor board.

Should I charge a trip fee?

Many handymen charge a trip or minimum fee to cover travel and setup on small jobs. The templates include it as a line you can keep or delete.
